History of DSN College

About Us

D.S.N. College, the oldest college of the UNNAO city established in 1946 by one of the great freedom fighter and noted social worker, Pt. Vishwambhar Dayalu Tripathi ji. This prestigious college has been working since its inception to develop decent, courteous, virtuous, character and human qualities along with quality education to the students.

Pt. Vishambhar Dayalu Tripathi ji adheres in the ideology of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. In the honor of Neta ji, He established this college as an intermediate college for the students of Unnao who had to travel to Lucknow or Kanpur for studies. So this college named as Subhash National College, Unnao. Later on, this college started functioning as the first institution of Unnao district providing higher education. Undergraduate courses were introduced in 1949 and Postgraduate classes (in two subjects) were started in 1951. The same year L.T. (Licentiate in Teaching) training classes were also introduced for the benefit of a host of youths aspiring to become an L.T. grade teacher.

In the year 1958, this college came under the umbrella of Dayanand Anglo Vedic Society. The college experienced tremendous growth under the skillful and gracious leadership of the then M.L.C. and secretary of this society Late Dr. Virendra Swarup ji. Under his able and dynamic administration and patronage, new courses and faculties came to be introduced in quick succession. In 1958 itself Faculty of Commerce was started. By 1964 the college was able to run Postgraduate classes in six subjects. Undergraduate classes in science stream started in 1966 and Postgraduate classes in Sanskrit started in 1980.

The former Secretary, Board of Management, Late Jagendra Swaroop ji was an alumnus of St. Stephen’s College, New Delhi. A recipient of Citizen Award, Jagendra Swaroop ji was, like his sire, dedicated to the cause of education. He left no stone unturned in promoting education not only in U. P. but also in Uttarakhand. Like Victor Hugo he believed that “He, who opens a school door, closes a prison.” In his glorious lifetime, he was an able administrator, a renowned lawyer, a very popular, sociable and ideal MLC, and, above all, a gem of a man who was born for the service of mankind.

A skilled management, administrative, and academic governing body oversees this college and places a high priority on the student’s complete development. As a result, this college broadens the scope of its academic programme to include personality development and the enhancement of communication skills.

The incumbent Secretary, Board of Management, Shri Manvendra Swaroop ji follows in his father’s footsteps. He is carrying the baton handed over to him by his beloved father.  It is through his tireless efforts that the college has come to make infrastructural development. The college has spacious and well-equipped classrooms, laboratories, a library with a stack of books and reading rooms, a conference hall and a large playground. The administrative block and departments are fully furnished. The atmosphere on the campus is conducive to teaching and learning as well as to the holistic development of the students coming from different socio-economic backgrounds. The academic atmosphere of the college provides both students and teachers with an opportunity to hone their teaching-learning skills, engage themselves in research activities as well as in extra-curricular and Co-curricular activities.

In its eventful journey of seventy six (76) years, the college has been devoted to the noblest cause of imparting education. There are four faculties (Arts/ Humanities, Science, Commerce and Teachers’ Training/B. Ed) in the college. It is due to the concerted efforts of Board of Management that the college has been able to start Postgraduate classes (under self-financed scheme) in such subjects as Chemistry, Botany, Geography and Education and introduce job-oriented courses like B. Lib., B.Sc. with Computer Science etc. Students from different socio-economic backgrounds come to receive education. Teachers not only teach those courses but also instil in them good moral and spiritual qualities so that they may develop into ideal citizens and become assets to the nation.
